Chemical A NaClNumber: 58 amu What do you do outside of roller derby: Study the roller derby rules! From 9-5 I am an analytical environmental chemist, ensuring Florida's waters and soils are safe and clean. Athletic or Skating Background: I played basketball in high school and rugby for FSU in college. As far as skating goes, I skated on quads with the neighborhood kids as a child and transitioned to inlines when they became "cooler than quads" (now I'm an adult and know better.) Before starting derby I hadn't been on skates more than a handful of times in the previous 15 years (I assure you it wasn't pretty, sometimes it still isn't). Why I joined derby: For the exercise, my BFF Frozen Tundra was involved and because I have always wanted to wear stripes and send skaters/players to the penalty box. Added bonuses include being a part of the amazing TRG family and having the opportunity to travel across the USA (10 states in the first six weeks of the 2012 season, including an epic bus trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas). Best Derby Moment: Oh there are so many. Some of the jems are my first bout as head ref (Jail Break Betties vs Molly Rogers at the fairgrounds in June of 2011, you should have been there), proposing to my derby wife Wheels Bohr, and having the entire Capital Punishment team scream my name from the bench at the Green Country announcer when he fumbled over it in Tulsa. Favorite Opponent: Any skater who decides to argue with me over a call and draws the insubordination penalty. It is my favorite penalty to issue and now she gets to sit in the box an additional minute, thanks for playing! Favorite Derby Fan: My family when they are able to come and support me and any off duty zebra or fan of team zebra. Game Day Rituals: Going over the rules (particularly the obscure ones), quadruple checking that I have my whistles and repeating the zebra mantra, "color, number, penalty" to myself over and over and over and over....
