How did you come up with your derby name? Does it have any meaning?
Came up with it several months before I first joined. Initially, my mom didn’t approve of it, so I came up with something else. That was taken (back when we had to submit them for approval), so it was back to Rita. As for the meaning? See if you can find any of my exes.
How did you get involved in roller derby? How did you wind up with TRG?
I always knew I needed to join derby from the instant I saw some local roller girls. I waited patiently to meet the age minimum. I joined the Charlotte Roller Girls in 2010 (and got to play against TRG in 2012). I made the decision in 2016 to leave my hometown and joined TRG. The league has been instrumental in welcoming me to Tallahassee!
What do you do outside of derby?
I do administrative work. There’s no hipchecking in the office.
Any fun derby stories you’d like to share?
Oh, I’ve got a bunch. Buy me a drink and I’ll tell you several.
Likes? (Anything, derby or just in general)
I love skating, cheese, and beer.
Dislikes? (Anything, derby or just in general)
Why is TRG (or roller derby) important to you?
I’ve been involved with derby longer than I’ve worked any job or been in any relationship. Derby brings strong women (and some dudes, thanks dudes!) together to take over the world.
