Dani of the Dead #78
What is the origin of your derby name/persona?
A little bit of love for Nightmare Before Christmas, a little bit of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), with a nice helping of love for Dawn of the Dead. I’m just a -little- obsessed with Halloween and all things creepy being that my birthday is just before Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday!
What year did you join TRG?
Blocker, with a little bit of pivoting.
What do you do outside of roller derby?
I am an Administrative Assistant at DEO by day, and a tailor/seamstress/aspiring puppeteer/stuffed animal maker by night.
Prior athletic background?
None other than recreational playing in neighborhoods as a child. I didn’t even know how to skate when I began with TRG–the last time I had been on skates had been when I was 12. TRG taught me everything.
How did you get into roller derby?
In my art classes at FSU, I had a classmate who would come in her jerseys and post flyers around the Fine Arts Building. I attended my first bout shortly after: The Final Boutdown, and I was instantly hooked! I didn’t get the courage to join until I had graduated, and was a year out of school, when I thought it would be a great way to get in shape and have fun. Best decision I’ve ever made.
TRG Spirit 2013! Yes I’ve got it, how about you?!
